What I meant: Please go to the store with your father. You need to get out of the house and away from the television.
What I said: “Want to go to Target with Daddy? You know he always looks at the toys….”
What she heard: “Want to go to Target with Daddy? He’ll buy you anything you want!”
I’m almost dreading how this will play out. Will Daddy buy her something, thus reaffirming her ideals of getting whatever she wants? Will he buy her nothing, setting off a terrible fit in the middle of Target, and guaranteeing she will never willingly go to the store with him in the near future? Will she accept the lack of toy acquisition gracefully, and be content with looking and touching every toy?
Will I hold back from eating the remaining two dozen freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, with no one in the house to stop me, or shame me into stopping?
All these answers and more, on the next episode!
